– I dream of world peace. For as long as I can remember, I believe in the good in our world.  I smile each day and find energy to do by listening to my dream. Believe me, I had critique for always being positive, finding new energy, having lots of ideas.  Trust me when I tell you that I hated being left outside in school in my early years. In my professional life I got many negative remarks and many shut doors because I had too much energy (they said).

I kept dreaming. Kept searching. I moved. I found new friends, new environments to grow. Planted my dream in new global soil. I found friends and co-workers who love smiles and believe in a world of peace, the same rights for all. I surround myself with dreamers and people who believe.
We know we are in the midst of a great big challenge. In the Vilostrada team, we focus on the positive. We start with the common – the smiles, the games, the ideas and curiosity of all children we meet. We fuel on children´s open hearts and eagerness to learn. We grow with them with Common Ground.

When I met people like Jeremy Gilley in 2012, founder of Peace One Day, my heart grows stronger. Amazed at the over 500 millions of people participating in his peace activities each September. He started the organization with the same dream I have, world peace.

When I worked and participated in UNESCO Mobile Learning conferences connecting with people like Dr George Saltsman (Lamar University) and Dr Adele Botha (ICT4RED), they show me and our team the tools which we will use to start our journey. Education is key to all change.

Today Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says: “The United Nations is needed more than ever at this time of multiple crises. […] At this critical moment, let us reaffirm our commitment to empowering the marginalized and vulnerable. On United Nations Day, I call on Governments and individuals to work in common cause for the common good.”

All of us at Vilostrada and network of volunteers around the world, promise to continue working with you, United Nations, Peace One Day and educators. We promise to create new opportunities for our common future, our common ground. Together we can change the world. Together it is all possible.
